Malaysia was among one of the top 12 mega diverse countries in the world. It harbours a high diversity and density of tropical marine species such as corals, fish, seaweed and invertebrates. Many scientific expeditions and surveys or the marine check-list has been carried out in the Straits of Malacca and South China Sea. Most of the surveys and documentation of marine fauna checklist have been concentrated on fish invertebrates such as corals (cnidaria), echinoderms and molluscs. However, jellyfish (cnidaria or coelenterate) remains under represented in many Malaysian checklist documentations as they are not commonly studied.
